Description: The KinderCare Glover Park project consisted of interior and exterior renovations to an existing building on Wisconsin Avenue in Northwest, DC. Renovations to the existing building included installation of a new roof, HVAC system, an upgraded electrical system as well as full interior demolition and buildout to support the new center’s program needs. An upsized domestic water line and a fire line were brought from the street into the building to meet the increased demand for domestic water and to support a new fire sprinkler system. A new elevator, which included building a new pit and shaft, was added to the building to provide ADA compliance as the center is laid out over 3 levels. A small retaining wall and storefront door were added at the basement level to allow egress directly from the lower level to the parking lot. The parking lot layout was modified to better serve the center and new fencing and landscaping were added to enhance the curb appeal of the building.

Sisters Thai

Description: TEEL was contracted to complete the build out for Sisters Thai’s new location in the third quarter of 2019. This 4,500+ SF restaurant is filled with high end finishes. In the front of house, TEEL was tasked with building a faux city street in a European fashion. The main bar was built with a 35’+ radius to match the movie theatre marquis sign above, and is backed with large format tiles which mirror a stone slab. TEEL was also tasked with installing a front lit graphic in the dessert café to simulate looking through the window over the mountains. The kitchen has 9 high capacity Wok burners so they can keep up with a full restaurant and handle take out orders at the same time.

Tysons Corner Center – Interior Concourse Mall Renovation

Description: 9 phases, occupied space. This high-degree of difficulty project included a high-end interior renovation of Tysons Corner Mall’s concourse in multiple phases over a 20-month duration. The scope included removal and replacement of the existing interior ceiling, finishes, railings, lighting and decorative elements. An elevated slab was removed to incorporate the installation of a new glass floor. Perhaps the most challenging part of the project included a 114’ diameter coffered ceiling 50’ above the lower level at the Macy’s Aviary Court. The project was completed entirely off-hours to allow the mall tenants and general public complete and unrestricted access to shops and restaurants.

Cafe du Parc

Description: Located within the historic Willard Intercontinental Hotel, this project involved the complete demo, redesign/ renovation and build back of the Cafe Du Parc lounge and kitchen. TEEL completed this fast track protect over 12 weeks during the COVID-19 pandemic. Finishes included an array of special ordered wall and floor tiles from Europe, installation of 5 different custom wall coverings, which included installing at the Cafe interior walls and ceilings, all new MEP + Sprinkler systems, low voltage, lighting controls, AV, kitchen equipment, Bohemian mirrors at the rear bar and columns, and custom wood wall-paneling and built-in millwork, which was finished off by hand painted antiquing. TEEL also renovated 3 existing, ground level restrooms at the rear of the Cafe and renovated the adjacent service corridor to allow public access to the restrooms from the Cafe. TEEL was accompanied by JN + A Architects and Swatchroom, as the interior design, along with other specialty design consultants, trade partners and vendors to complete this uniquely designed space.

Kincora Sales Center

Description: D.C.-based public relations firm Nahigian Strategies, in collaboration with The Carr Cos., launched a multimedia production space called Big Whig Media out of the Willard InterContinental Hotel. Big Whig includes 5 editing bays, 3 uplink rooms and a greenroom for guests. The center takes over the space formerly occupied by Chanel, next to Café du Parc.

This office serves as their East Coast regional ‘touch down,’ mobile office headquarters. This was a fast-track project that included managing TEEL subs and 10 additional Owner vendor/suppliers. This project also include a custom built, back painted, LED glass company logo installation at the front entrance of the office suite. This would be the 2nd such installation for this company – the 1st being in California. This project serves as an example of great teamwork and collaboration, overcoming critical path scheduling issues, to achieve a well built office space.

Maison Kayser

Southgate Shopping Center

Description: Built on an 80,000 square foot lot in 1960, TEEL completed the comprehensive renovation of Southgate Shopping Center including a façade renovation, roof replacement, new electrical services, HVAC units and interior white box work with two tenant build-outs. Together with the owner and architect, TEEL accomplished raising the façade for increased visibility of the shopping center along with creating contemporary lines by removing the brick and shingle material, adding brand new framing, EIFS and paint and incorporating the modern architectural detail finishes by Butz-Wilbern Architects. Description: After nearly 28 years in our Great Falls, VA office, we chose the City of Fairfax as our home for the next 30 years. Our team demolished the former law firm to create an open – yet private – collaborative work environment for our home office team. Working closely with the architect, we set out to balance the trendy open office work space with a series of perimeter offices clad with glass storefronts. This allowed for abundant natural lighting to permeate throughout the floor plan which was supplemented with LED ambient-dimming lighting. The public areas feature white oak millwork, painted structural decking and a charcoal-stained and polished concrete floor. In order to move in before year end, the project was put on an accelerated schedule and completed in 7 weeks.

Shops at Stonefield

Description: When modern thinking creative firm HUGE, Inc. began to outgrow their existing DC office space, they selected a section of what was previously an electrical supply warehouse in EDENS’ Union Market development. The converted open office space received a mezzanine lounge, all new mechanical systems, NXT wall storefront assemblies and dry erase Idea paint on office walls throughout while still maintaining its industrial fabric.

The Kenmore Apartments

Description: Washington Real Estate Investment Trust [WashREIT] contracted with TEEL to complete the base building mechanical system upgrade of The Kenmore Apartments in NW. The circa 1955 boiler system was replaced with state-of-the art ductless heat pumps to the building’s 351 individual apartment units. During the course of the upgrade, the building also underwent extensive renovations to the 10 floors of corridors and lobbies.

The Firkin and Flyer, Baltimore/Washington International Airport

Description: The Firkin & Flyer is a British style pub at BWI, conveniently located in the B/C Concourse connector. Decked out with wall to wall graphics and an aeronautical themed décor, it features a full size biplane mounted directly in the terminal between the main dining area/bar and the high-end lounge across the hall, designed for patrons to relax and grab a drink while they wait for their flights.

Description: This renovation of an old warehouse in a DC packing district brings Chef Nick Stefanelli’s aspiration for his first restaurant to life, which has since been awarded a Michelin Star. The interior’s features include an open kitchen, hand-made tile, white marble countertops, custom-made climate controlled wine cabinets, and a mixture of plaster and exposed walls and ceilings. Outdoors, you can sit under the climate controlled pergola which is fully retractable, and covers the imported hand-painted tile floor. While waiting for a table, you can lounge at one of the couches that surround the fire pits at the entrance to the restaurant.

Kellogg Conference Hotel at Gallaudet University

Description: Renovation of offices on the 3rd floor of this existing, functioning and fully operating Kellogg Conference Center Hotel (KCC) into 29 hotel rooms at Gallaudet University. The schedule was based upon getting rooms open and ready in preparation for a fully scheduled spring season of events where the Hotel Operator is counting on the additional revenue from these 29 rooms. The biggest challenge that presented itself on this project was working around the KCC events schedule and Hotel occupancy while still progressing the construction schedule. Adding 29 bathrooms to the floor meant plenty of core drilling which couldn’t be done in the evening due to Hotel guests, above, and couldn’t be done in the day due to Conference Center Events, below. The project team was able to schedule and complete over 180 core drills, while balancing the Client’s needs with the progress of the job.

Angelika Pop Up Union Market

Description: A fit-out for the men’s clothier, HMX Group. The team was charged with preserving this historical fabric of the Georgetown structure while constructing reclaimed components which contributed to the eclectic theme experienced throughout the 2-story building.

Description: When Dr. Saundra Seaman needed additional real estate to expand her growing practice, she turned to TEEL to help with her medical office expansion and renovation. Three exam rooms, a new office and a larger reception area were added as part of the expansion while comprehensive renovations to the existing practice were completed to tie the spaces together. The project was completed off-hours and during the weekends to ensure no down-time occurred to the practice.

Spartan Surfaces

Description: Collective Architecture brought in TEEL during the early conceptual design phase of the project. We worked closely with Collective and Spartan Surfaces to provide budgeting and value engineering of the comprehensive renovation of this 14th Street row house. Collective Architecture’s sleek design featuring clean lines, floating ceilings, a floating mirror wall and a tree trunk that was scribed to the solid surface countertop gives way to the showrooms’ featured product lines. One of Spartan Surface’s missions is to “Help our clients bring a vision to life.” With our collective team approach, we achieved this mission for out client.

Description: With only a short window of time to complete this spa while temporarily closed, TEEL performed a full renovation to the Salon portion of the space. Description: Base building renovation of a former car dealership and conversion into this modern furniture gallery. These selections, paired with high-end architectural elements such as the honey onyx lit bar top and Interlam fabric-wrapped wall panels create an atmosphere like no other at the airport.

Description: Located in The Shops at Stonefield in Charlottesville, this oyster bar and restaurant owned by acclaimed Restaurateur Travis Croxton of Rappahannock Oyster Co., features a minimalist design with a large dining area, open ceilings, stained concrete floors, an open view kitchen, and a 20-seat white marble topped bar. An outdoor patio with a roll up garage door for outdoor bar seating was also constructed.

Bistro Atelier, Dulles International Airport

Description: TEEL constructed this 135-seat bistro (IAD’s largest restaurant), converting what once was three retail spaces. Bistro Atelier opened by restauranteur, Hakan Ilhan, brings classic French cuisine to the airport, including savory and sweet crepes, and an all-day breakfast and brunch menu.

Description: The Denver-based fast casual restaurant chain is quickly expanding east. Typically constructed within ten (10) weeks, TEEL is charged with effectively managing over 2 dozen subcontractors and Owner vendors to ensure an on-time opening. The Smashburger name refers to the chain’s process of smashing meat on the grill; meant to keep the juices seared in. Different geographical regions boast their own unique burger; i.e. “The Capital” in the DC-metro and “The New Englander” in Boston.

Description: In Arlington’s trendy Clarendon neighborhood, this restaurant and bar features a dining room and elaborate bar with a mezzanine used primarily for storage and the mechanical equipment servicing the top-of-the-line kitchen below. An outdoor patio on Clarendon Boulevard and terrace in the front of the building will be sure to attract patrons in the warmer months.

Pizzeria Paradiso

Location: Old Town Alexandria, VA

Description: This 120-seat restaurant in the heart of historic Old Town is Pizzeria Paradiso’s 3rd location in the Washington Metropolitan Area (following Dupont Circle and Georgetown, respectively). The “warehouse styled” theme prevalent throughout all 3 locations features exposed brick veneer and reclaimed wood used for flooring and millwork aspects on the project.

Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt

Description: The pavilion enclosure features a polycarbonate roof system, imported travertine tiles from Turkey and a custom lighting package that intensifies Egyptian artwork throughout the open space. The project’s scope also included comprehensive renovations of diplomatic offices and living quarters for the embassy staff.

Aesthetica Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center

Sandy Spring Bank

Foxchase Shopping Center

Description: Demolished 50% of the existing shopping center, making room for a new grocery store, flanked by new retail buildings. The project also included a façade renovation of 850 linear feet of existing shopping center, new site utilities, sidewalks, entrances, lighting and landscaping.

Landover Hills Shopping Center

Description: This 450 linear foot façade renovation included an EIFS parapet addition, new storefront assemblies, decorative brick piers, shed-style awnings and accent lighting. Extensive site work was also completed, comprising a storm water management system, new curb and gutter and site paving.

Laurel Pond Shopping Center

Description: Façade renovation to the 215′ strip mall. This “facelift” was primarily constructed of light gauge framing and EIFS (Exterior Insulation Finish System). New standing-seam roofing and a decorative gutter / cornice system were also installed to revitalize the property.
